On the morning of October 10, 2025, the “China-Malawi Multilateral Diplomatic Cooperation Training” was successfully inaugurated in Beijing. This significant foreign aid training program is hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People's Republic of China and organized by the School of International Development Cooperation at the University of International Business and Economics. The workshop marks a key initiative in strengthening diplomatic and economic ties between China and Malawi through shared knowledge and capacity building. On October 11, Dr. Chen Lu was invited to deliver a special lecture on the theme of “China-Africa Vocational Education cooperation Exploration and Practice”.
On presenting the lecture, Dr. Chen Lu detailed the significant contributions of vocational education to socio-economic development and employment. She further highlighted several models for sustainable China-Africa collaboration in this field, emphasizing high-quality, multi-modal programs like the “Future Africa Project”. She also stated that China's vocational education system is designed scientifically and comprehensively, covering a wide range of disciplines with increased scale, quality, and efficiency, strong policy support, and in-depth integration of industry and education. China's vocational education has particularly distinct advantages in specialized disciplines such as artificial intelligence, new energy, and virtual reality.
In light of Malawi's vocational education development needs, Dr. Chen Lu analyzed and explained the potential and prospects for educational exchange and cooperation with China in the related areas such as agricultural modernization, mining development, and energy transition, drawing on relevant research data, project demonstrations, and case studies. She also elaborated on the significance and goals of related vocational education overseas expansion, school-enterprise collaboration, industry-education integration, and digital empowerment projects. She stated that China's cooperation in areas such as agricultural technology and mining investment is making significant contributions to Malawi's economic development, creating numerous employment opportunities for local youth, and actively promoting the transformation and upgrading of the local economy. Vocational education cooperation between both countries will help Malawi unlock its demographic dividend, cultivate high-quality local technical talent, and accelerate the achievement of the country's sustainable development goals for related industries.
This training program serves as a concrete step in advancing China-Malawi cooperation in multilateral diplomacy and human resource development. It successfully deepened participants' understanding of both China's vocational education model and the practical realities of China-Africa collaboration.
